Prior to filing for personal bankruptcy, individuals are required to complete a pre-filing bankruptcy counseling session. This provision of federal bankruptcy law ensures that individuals understand all of their options and that they have the necessary knowledge and tools to develop a sound financial plan for the future. Things to know before you file bankruptcy.
American Debt Resources, Inc.(ADR) is approved by the Executive Office of the United States Trustees (EOUST) to provide the required pre-filing counseling and issue certificates. Approval does not endorse or ensure the quality of the agency's services.
At the conclusion of your pre-bankruptcy counseling session you will be given a certificate by ADR to give to your attorney.
ADR does not dispense legal advice. ADR counselors are not attorneys. Please consult an attorney for any legal matters. What is the cost for Pre-bankruptcy Counseling? The cost for pre-bankruptcy counseling is $75.00 regardless if you are filing single or jointly. Additionally, part of your session includes a review of your credit report. There is a charge of $32.00 per individual report and $50.00 per joint report. This fee includes a bi-merged credit report with score. Counselors will review and assist in interpreting your credit report. Inform your counselor if you wish to receive a copy of your credit report
Payment must be made either by debit card or money order. ADR can not accept personal checks or credit card payments. Fees are required before beginning your counseling session.
Fees may be waived or reduced if you meet specific poverty income guidelines. For more information regarding whether or not you qualify to have your fees waived speak with your counselor before starting your session.
